Our smallest PCB on-metal UHF tag: 16 × 15 × 3.8 mm FR4, NXP UCODE 8. Reads 2.6 m on metal with a 4 W fixed reader and 1.6 m with a handheld.
OM-210 is the smallest PCB tag in our on-metal range, a 16 × 15 × 3.8 mm FR4 circuit-board tag for metal items where even a 25 mm tag will not fit. Typical candidates are surgical and dental instruments, small hand tools, dies and inserts, connectors and firearm parts.
Despite the footprint, the datasheet quotes 2.6 m on a metal surface with a 4 W fixed reader and 1.6 m with an Impinj R2000-based handheld. That is workable for cabinet readers, tool-crib counters and handheld sweeps, but not for dock-door portals. The chip is an NXP UCODE 8, and the tag is listed for 902–928 MHz and 866–868 MHz; order OM-210-US or OM-210-EU for your region.
If you can fit a longer tag, OM-200 (25 × 10 mm) quotes 3 m and OM-180 (52 × 13 mm) quotes 8 m on metal. For an even smaller footprint, our ceramic on-metal tags start at 13 × 9 mm.
No fixing method is given on the datasheet. Tags of this size are usually bonded with epoxy or industrial adhesive, or recessed into a pocket in the part so they sit flush. Trial the method on samples with the tag in its final position, since small tags are sensitive to how they sit on the metal. Encode your EPC numbering on site with any Gen2 reader-writer.

The datasheet quotes 2.6 m with a 4 W fixed reader and the tag on metal, and 1.6 m with an Impinj R2000-based handheld.
No method is specified. Epoxy, industrial adhesive or a recessed pocket are the usual options for tags this size; test on samples in the final position.
OM-210-US for 902–928 MHz systems and OM-210-EU for 866–868 MHz systems.
Yes. The NXP UCODE 8 chip is EPC Gen2, so any Gen2 reader-writer can encode your EPC numbering.
Compare UHF RFID reader bands by country, including US, EU, UK, China, India and Japan. Understand ERP, EIRP, channel conditions and radio approvals.
Wire a UHF reader's D0, D1 and ground to your controller, match 26/34-bit Wiegand, size 12 V power and trigger the barrier by relay. Diagrams included.
Yes, RFID works on metal with tags built for it. See why metal detunes standard tags, compare ABS, PCB, ceramic and label tags, and test read range properly.
