13.56 MHz iCLASS/Seos-Compatible Multi-Tech Module: overview

The XM-140 is a 13.56 MHz-only reader module for products built around high-frequency credentials. Its supported list covers iCLASS, iCLASS SE and Seos-compatible cards together with MIFARE Classic, DESFire EV1/EV2, Ultralight and Ultralight C, FeliCa, ICODE, CEPAS, CPU cards and NFC Forum Type 1–5 tags, over ISO/IEC 14443A/B, ISO/IEC 15693 and ISO/IEC 18092. Leaving out 125 kHz keeps the antenna work to a single 50 Ω loop, which simplifies slim and metal-framed reader designs.

Before you design it in, confirm which data your access-control system expects from iCLASS and Seos credentials — the card serial number (CSN) or the protected access-control payload — and we will check the module configuration against your sample cards. For DESFire, likewise tell us whether you need the UID or application data. The board is 30 × 16 × 9.2 mm, weighs about 1.9 g and is rated from –40 to +85 °C.

Integration notes

The 6-pin, 2.0 mm pitch host header carries 5 V DC, GND, a 3.3 V TTL UART at 115200 bps and USB full-speed data (12 Mbps); Windows, Linux, Android and macOS hosts are listed. Connect the external 50 Ω antenna to the HF pins of the 4-pin, 1.25 mm connector. The LF pins belong to the shared family pin map; this version is specified for 13.56 MHz only. Current is ≤ 180 mA with the RF field on and ≤ 30 mA off. A configuration tool is provided, firmware updates run over the serial port, and CE, FCC, RoHS and Japan Radio Law approvals are listed.

XM-140 FAQ

Does the XM-140 read 125 kHz prox cards?

No. It is specified for 13.56 MHz only. For prox plus iCLASS/Seos-compatible reading, choose the XM-160, or the XM-180 if you also need BLE 5.1.

Does it return the iCLASS/Seos serial number or the secure credential data?

The specification does not state which data is returned. Send us sample credentials and the format your controller expects, and we will confirm before you order.

Which protocols are supported?

ISO/IEC 14443A and 14443B, ISO/IEC 15693, ISO/IEC 18092 and FeliCa.

What antenna does it need?

One external 50 Ω 13.56 MHz antenna on the HF pins of the 4-pin, 1.25 mm connector. The antenna shape can be adapted to your housing.

Which host operating systems are supported?

Windows 10, 8.1, 8 and 7, Linux, Android and macOS, over USB or via your own controller on the UART.
