30 × 16 × 8.9 mm ISO14443A/B reader for MIFARE, DESFire, Ultralight and NTAG with a 3.3 V TTL UART, auto or command-triggered reads, and an external 50 Ω antenna.
The HF-240 is a 13.56 MHz NFC reader module with a 3.3 V TTL UART, measuring 30 × 16 × 8.9 mm and weighing about 1.8 g as a bare board. It is aimed at OEMs that need MIFARE and ISO/IEC 14443 card reading in very little space: handheld terminals, PCs and keyboards, displays, service kiosks and ticketing equipment.
Supported standards are ISO/IEC 14443A, ISO/IEC 14443B and ISO/IEC 18092. In practice that covers MIFARE Classic, MIFARE DESFire EV1/EV2, MIFARE Ultralight and Ultralight C, NTAG2xx, contactless CPU (microprocessor) cards, and NFC Forum Type 1, 2 and 4 tags. The RF side runs on a dedicated contactless communication chip. The antenna is external (50 Ω), so you can size the coil and position it where cards are presented instead of where the board happens to fit.
Two reading modes are available. In active mode the module scans on its own and sends each card it finds; in passive mode it waits for a read command from the host, keeping the serial line quiet until your application asks. The baud rate is adjustable from 9600 to 115200 bps (default 115200), and firmware can be upgraded over the serial port.
A 6-pin, 2.0 mm pitch header carries +5 V DC, GND, TXD and RXD; pins 5 and 6 (SCL/D1, SDA/D0) have no function on this version. The UART uses 3.3 V TTL levels. The antenna plugs into a 4-pin, 1.25 mm connector, and a separate 2-pin, 2.0 mm header is not connected. Allow up to 120 mA while reading and 100 mA in standby. No certification is listed for the bare module. The 125 kHz LF-150 and the dual-frequency HF-250 use the same outline and 6-pin header, so a single carrier board can accept any of the three.

| HF-240-M-T | 13.56 MHz ISO14443A/B module, 30 × 16 mm, UART (3.3 V TTL) interface, external antenna connector |
Gym access control system hardware for 24/7 clubs: fob and wristband readers, face and QR terminals, anti-passback controllers and no-touch exit buttons.
EV charger RFID cards, key fobs and 13.56 MHz reader modules for charger OEMs and operators: UID formats, OCPP idTag mapping and UART integration notes.
No. It supports ISO/IEC 14443A, 14443B and 18092 credentials. For ISO 15693 and ICODE tags, use the HF-230 multi-protocol module.
No read distance is specified, because it depends on the external antenna you pair with the module and on the card. Request a sample to measure range with your own antenna and enclosure.
An external 13.56 MHz antenna matched to 50 Ω, connected to the 4-pin, 1.25 mm antenna connector.
The module runs from 5 V DC, but TXD and RXD use 3.3 V TTL levels. Check that your MCU accepts 3.3 V inputs, and level-shift the host TX line if it drives 5 V.
Yes, mechanically. The LF-150 (125 kHz) and HF-250 (dual-frequency) share this 30 × 16 mm outline and 6-pin header pinout; check the command set of each module in your firmware.
Compare Wiegand, OSDP and RS485 reader interfaces: wiring, cable limits, AES-128 Secure Channel and steps for a compatible access-control migration.
125 kHz cards are cheap but easy to clone; 13.56 MHz cards add memory and, on DESFire-class chips, AES security. Compare range, chips, security and migration.
