IP65 Tamper-Proof Dual-Frequency Card Reader, 93 mm: overview

TP-140 puts the dual-frequency tamper-alarm reader into a larger 93.3 × 93 × 19.3 mm square housing. Pick it over the 86 mm TP-120 when the door design calls for a bigger square face, or when a site has already standardized on 93 mm readers.

One reader covers the card mix found on older sites: 125 kHz EM4100, EM4102, EM4200, EM4305 and EM4450 cards, plus 13.56 MHz MIFARE Classic, MIFARE DESFire EV1/EV2, MIFARE Ultralight and Ultralight C, NTAG2xx, NFC Forum Type 1/2/4 tags and CPU smart cards under ISO/IEC 14443A/B and ISO/IEC 18092. Because it reads encrypted CPU card content, a site can phase in anti-copy cards while proximity cards are still in circulation. Read range is 0–3 cm.

The housing is rated IP65 and the reader raises a tamper alarm if it is taken off the wall. Operating range is –20 to +65 °C at 20–80% relative humidity, non-condensing, and storage is rated down to –40 °C.

Integration notes

Connect Wiegand or RS485 to the controller and supply 9–15 V DC; at 12 V, expect about 100 mA on standby and 150 mA while reading. Firmware and settings can be updated over RS485 with the management utility. A touch-keypad version is available for card-plus-PIN doors.

TP-140 FAQ

What is the difference between TP-140 and TP-120?

Card support, outputs and electrical specs are the same. TP-140 uses a 93.3 × 93 × 19.3 mm square housing; TP-120 uses an 86 × 86 × 15.6 mm housing.

Which 125 kHz cards are supported?

EM4100, EM4102, EM4200, EM4305 and EM4450.

How is firmware updated?

Over the RS485 line, using the management utility that accompanies the reader. The same tool updates configuration parameters.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The housing is rated IP65 and works from –20 to +65 °C, so it suits sheltered outdoor doors.

What read range should I plan for?

0–3 cm, depending on the card type and installation, so users should present the card close to the reader face.
